Exhibition at the Hôtel de la Marine, Paris, 30 November 2022 - 26 March 2023
In 1894, the collector and patron Giorgio Franchetti (1865-1922) acquired the Ca' d'Oro, a splendid 15th-century Venetian palace overlooking the Grand Canal, restored it and installed his collection there. Franchetti bequeathed the entire collection to the Italian state.
This catalogue of the new exhibition at the Al Thani Galleries offers an exceptional overview of a selection of masterpieces from the Ca' d'Oro. The first part of the book is devoted to the history of the museum; the second part presents a catalogue of works by the greatest Italian artists, mainly Venetians, such as Pietro Lombardo, Gentile Bellini, Jacopo Sansovino, Mantegna, Titian, Tintoretto and Bernini. Analyses and perspectives, written by the best experts, of nearly one hundred art objects complete the book.
