Influenced by old masters, Charles-Joseph Natoire (1700-1777)á has built his work around a formidable mix of styles. From burlesque to national History and greek and latin mythology, most of his paintings have been commissioned for Versailles, Marly, Fontainebleau or l'H˘tel de Soubise by the nobility or the royal court. At the center of the approach of this artist who lived between Paris and Romaá: the questionning on how to tell a story and especially how to represent an action performed at the moment. Beyond the picture of a purely ornemental artist that Natoire used to have, this book brings to the fore the new and future-oriented vision he insufflated to french art.
