Exhibition at the Bibliothèque-musée de l'Opéra Garnier, 16 June - 25 September 2016

From 1947, the date of the creation of George Balanchine's Crystal Palace for the Paris Opera Ballet, to July 2016, with the scheduled creation of William Forsythe's Blake Works I, the dialogue between the Paris Opera and American choreography has continued to deepen.

Seen from Europe, American dance represents an ideal of modernity and liberation of the body, expressed through elements characteristic of the New World: among others, modern dance, jazz and musical comedy. Thanks to regular invitations to the most emblematic American choreographers, she has thus contributed, in her own way, to opening up the repertoire of the Ballet de l'Opéra to a new aesthetic and choreographic language.

With the help of chronologically organised essays, photographs and reproductions of models, this book retraces seventy years of exchanges and creations, underlining the plurality and vitality of this American dance at the Paris Opera.
