This book is devoted to the French architect Hector Guimard (1867-1942), major representative of Art nouveau architecture in Paris. Instead of the immediate success of the “Castel Beranger” in Auteuil, original work by its exterior as interior conception and decoration, Guimard's fame is weak and much contested and his ways of thinking concerning construction isolate him from the other artists. However, as furniture creator, he knew how to make his art evolve to a more classic Art nouveau style and his entrances for the Parisian underground remain the inevitable image of Paris in 1900.
This book is the fruit of the meeting between Georges Vigne, Chief Curator of the contemporary Art national Found and art historian, and Felipe Ferré, photographer, passionate by Guimard's work since 30 years.
