Exhibition at Fondation Beyeler, Switzerland, 31 January - 8 May 2016.

Inspired by children and the mentally ill, stimulated by the work of artists on the margins of the cultural scene, Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) succeeded in liberating himself from traditions and in reinventing art. His influence can still be felt today in contemporary and street art artists, as David Hockney, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.
This catalogue of Fondation Beyeler's large-scale Jean Dubuffet retrospective presents more than 100 works by Dubuffet. The point of departure of this exhibition is Dubuffet's fascinating notion of landscape, which can change into a body, a face, an object. In his works, Dubuffed used unusual material as sand, butterfly wings, sponges, etc.
Alongside important paintings and sculptures from all the major phases of the artist's oeuvre, this book also shows Coucou Bazar, a multimedia work of art combining painting, sculpture, theatre, dance and music.
