Exhibition at the Galerie Yves Gastou, Paris, 31 March - 30 April 2022
Jean Touret (1916-2004) was a painter, sculptor, furniture designer and creator of sacred art. He learned to paint but expressed himself through sculpture; he sculpted constantly but did not sell his works. His singular creative adventure took root, in the aftermath of the Second World War, in a village in the Beauce region where he directed Les Artisans de Marolles, a cooperative of craftsmen making furniture with pure forms that is now sold on the design market.
His activity as a sculptor and his participation in the renewal of sacred art are less well known, although he is credited with major works such as the high altar of Notre-Dame de Paris, created in 1981.
This first monograph endeavours to present the different worlds in which Jean Touret flourished. It reveals a rich body of work, beating to the rhythm of a humanist and poetic action, animated by a deep spiritual life.
