Masterwork of the 11th century, the Bayeux Tapestry is nothing short of two "miracles": its exceptional visual richness and its remarkable state of conservation, almost a millennium after its realization.
70-meter long, it belongs to France and England national histories and is part of UNESCO World Heritage since 2007.
Entirely needle embroided with coloured woollen yarns, it recounts the conquest of the kingdom of England by William, Duke of Normandy, in a long series of images. Much has been written about it, but the questions about its creation context and significations still remain enigmatic.
This book in two volumes includes a book of comments on the current state of researches, and a leporello of more than 30 meters, that entirely reproduces the embroidery.
