Edouard André made build and inaugurated in 1876 his mansion boulevard Haussmann in Paris and furnished it after his wedding with Nélie Jacquemart. The later bequeathed it with Chaalis Domain to the Institut de France. The furnishing and decors of the Hôtel André were conceived in rooms by era, in order to represent Middle-Age to 18th century Art de vivre and styles.
In this book, 62 pieces of furniture of seats, the rarest and the more seducing, are the subject of a both historical and stylistic study, with comprehensive and detailed views. The others are all listed with photograph in the complete catalogue of the museum works.
Nicolas Sainte Fare Garnot, chief curator of the museum, drew up, besides the historic and the general presentation of the collection, the texts related to cabinetmaking furniture. Bill G. Pallot, art historian who is an authority on French seats, wrote the texts concerning this domain.
