Exhibition at Espace 41, Blois, 30 June - 16 September 2012
Abel-François Poisson de Vandières, marquis de Marigny and marquis de Ménars (1727-1781), brother of Madame de Pompadour, was appointed director of the Bâtiments du Roi in 1751 and remained in charge until 1773. This longevity, combined to his great knowledge of arts and artists of his time, allowed major architectural and artistic plans to appear. Paris owes him, among others, the Théâtre de l'Odéon, the Place de la Concorde, the Eglise Sainte-Geneviève, and the Ecole Militaire.
This book, catalogue of the exhibition built up thanks to the collection, never shown to the public, kept in the Archives department of Loir-et-Cher, presents 90 drawings of the Château de Ménars, its gardens and terraces ordered by Marigny.
