This book is the first monograph devoted to Léon Delachaux (1850-1919), French American-naturalized painter known for his portraits, landscapes and genre scenes.
Born in France, grown in Switzerland and Egypt, Delachaux settled in Philadelphia in 1875. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where he was Thomas Eakin's student. Back in France in 1883, he remained an intermediary between France and America, notably in the ruche de Grez-sur-Loing. Nowadays, museums worldwide, including Le Louvre and Orsay, hold the artist's works.
This book constitutes a database of information before the publication of Delachaux's catalogue raisonné.
