Former student of the School of Decorative Arts then of the Art School, Pierre-Paul Jouve (1878-1973) carries off his first success at the age of 16 at the French artists' fair. His animal drawings are noticed by the architect René Binet who commissioned from him the decoration of the monumental door of the 1900 World Fair, arousing that way his talent as a sculptor. In 1907 Jouve is one of the first young grant-holder artists of the Villa Abd-el-Tif in Algeria. Through his drawings, watercolours, paintings and sculptor, Jouve built his reputation round his ability to catch and penetrate the nature of each animal species.

Internationally renowned specialist in Art nouveau and Art deco, Felix Marcilhac offers here the most complete study ever published on Jouve's work.
