After La céramique française des années 50, Pierre Staudenmeyer signs his second book, devoted to the French ceramist Roger Capron, whose work is studied here in its globality, from the objects and the glazed tiles to the decorative panels.
Former pupil of the decorator René Gabriel, who greatly influenced the young generation of 50s creators, both renowned artist and founder of an industrial firm meant to product his own works, Carpon realizes at his beginning the forms which will become the symbols of his production: branches, stylised characters, suns and geometric motifs. His sources of inspiration are varied, from the icons of folk art at his arrival at Vallauris, to the primitive arts and the archaic Greece, whom he is, as Picasso, a fervent enthousiast. Anyway, they'll both borrow forms and decors to this heritage, from which Capron will create his famous “vase with ears”, which is inspired by the Greek vases and by the Etruscan funeral urnes. Today, Capron's whole work arouses a real infatuation of the collectors all around the world.
