Exhibition at the Musée de Montmartre, Paris, 15 February - 15 July 2018

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Bateau-Lavoir, located a few meters far from the present Musée de Montmartre, was the cradle of modern art where met and exchanged Picasso, Braque, Derain, Vlaminck, Matisse, Apollinaire, Max Jacob, Otto van Rees, among others.
Kees van Dongen (1877-1968) settled there at the end of 1905 - probably invited by Picasso who was living there since 1904 - and remained there until 1907.
This exhibition catalogue illustrates how van Dongen's short stay at the Bateau-Lavoir had a decisive influence on his career. Several significant works illustrate the key phases in this period.
