Vermeer, or « the Sphinx of Delft ». This expression, coined in the 19thcentury, fixed the personality of Johannes Vermeer (1632-1975) in an enigmatic and lonely pose. This exhibition catalogue allows to discover that this universal genius was part of a rich network, very far from the loneliness he has been associated with for a long time. It draws a parallel between Vermeer's twelve exhibited works - a third of his entire production - and the works of other major artists of his time, including Gerrit Dou, Gerard ter Borch, Frans van Mieris, Gabriël Metsu or Pieter de Hooch.
