Exhibition at the Maison Chaumet, Paris, 26 July - 7 September 2023
Since the House of Chaumet was founded in Paris in 1780, each generation of jewellers has drawn inspiration from the natural world, imagining ruby-encrusted vines, laurel-crowned tiaras, diamond stars and a beguiling array of jewelled animals - birds, butterflies, snakes, lions and even bats - that embodied the spirit of the age.
As tools for research and the development of ideas, drawings were an essential first step in the creation of jewellery, revealing little-known aspects of the design process. In this exhibition catalogue, these drawings from the Chaumet archives are published for the first time and presented in thematic chapters: Flowers, Trees and Plants, Bestiary, Universe.
