This book focuses on the Hôtel de Monaco, the current residence of the Polish ambassador and one of the most beautiful private mansions in Paris.
Built by Brongniart in 1774-1776 for the Princess of Monaco, this Parisian hotel was designed as a vast Italian-style pavilion. The vestibule, the grand salons, the dining room and the private flats are luxuriously decorated.
The book recounts the history of this residence and its many inhabitants. A place of pomp and society, its owners frequently received writers such as Balzac and Musset, and Frédéric Chopin gave one of his first concerts there in 1832.
