Alexander Calder animated sculpture and developed an artistic practice in constant dialogue with the moving world and movement in objects. Calder's inquisitive mind, love of materials, and predisposition for invention allowed him to reject traditional artistic hierarchies and establish his own set of principles about how art works based on new scientific realities, to access "a new possibility of beauty." This book accompanies the exhibition Alexander Calder: A Radical Inventor, organized and toured by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Calder Foundation.
