Exhibition at the Musée Lambinet, Versailles, 25 November 2023 - 25 February 2024
Alexandre-Jean Dubois- Drahonet was a portraitist, military painter and witness to the Restoration. He was a much-loved artist in his day, before he was unjustly forgotten.
This catalogue, the first retrospective devoted to Dubois-Drahonet, highlights the works of this little-known painter and recalls his work in the royal city, where he had his studio. Alongside the two works by the artist owned by the Musée Lambinet, sixty-nine paintings from French and foreign museums and private collections are presented, illustrating his work as a portraitist and his links with Versailles.
