Developed during the Middle Ages in the Cordoba region, golden leathers reached their peaks in the 16th century throughout Spain. In the 17th century, as Spanish production was declining, more and more workshops developed in all the other European countries - as Italy, France, Netherlands and England - and it lasted until the first half of the 18th century, before the trend slowly disappeared.
Based on bibliographic sources and decors still kept in France and abroad, this book recounts the mostly unknown story, first Spanish then European, of these sumptuous decors and their evolution.
