At the end of the 17th century, more than 200,000 Huguenots left France to join communities already in exile around the world. The first generation of these refugees included hundreds of skilled artists, designers and craftsmen. Beyond France's borders, they improved the quality of design and workshop practices, passing on their skills to their apprentices, sons, godchildren, cousins, and successive generations, who have continued to dominate production in the luxury crafts.

This richly illustrated book focuses on this diaspora and their significant contributions in the fields of silver and silk, for which they are best known, but also architecture, ceramics, design, watchmaking, engraving, furniture, etc.
