Among the few traditional Aztec codices found, the Codex Borbonicus is one of the most precious. An essential testimony to the civilisation of ancient Mexico, it was acquired by the French Assemblée nationale in 1826, hence its name Borbonicus - in reference to the Bourbon Palace where it is now kept.

Dated from the beginning of the 16th century, it presents the three great temporal cycles of the Aztec calendar: the tonalpohualli, "the count of the days of the dead" and its 260 days; the xiuhpohualli and the xiuhmolpilli, corresponding to the Mexican century.

This volume offers a facsimile of the Codex Bordonicus as well as an illustrated commentary book by the greatest specialists in Mesoamerican culture, which provides the keys to understanding this extraordinary masterpiece.
