Exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, 8 March 2017 - 7 May 2017

Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot (1763-1850) created a gold and silversmith's house which became the French most frequented one by European courts during the French Empire and Restoration.
The Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris keeps an exceptional set of 33 gold and silversmith pieces and of 176 drawings coming from Odiot's workshop. Finely executed, these drawings represent the different creation stages, from the first sketches to the designs showed to the clients. By gathering drawings and created objects, this book reveals the workshop's artistic process. The research was enlarged to public and private collections, in France and abroad, in order to replace the collection of the museum in a larger corpus and to offer an unpublished synthesis on the gold- and silversmith.
