Exhibition at the Musée du Louvre, Paris, 20 February - 19 May 2014

In the 17th century, ceiling decoration underwent profound changes. The transition from flat to vaulted ceilings made the artists to create innovative treatments.

Through a selection of drawings and engravings coming from the holdings of the Musée du Louvre and from some Parisian collections, this book presents the formal evolutions of civil decors in Paris during the centuries, studies then the relations between drawn projects and engraved repertoires, and concludes with four major undertakings: the hotel Lambert, the palais Mazarin, and the Louvre and Tuileries palaces under Louis XIV's reign.
