A vastly expanded reprint of the 2003 edition, this monograph looks back at the career of Roger Capron (1922-2006), the only French ceramist of his time to have both produced a major artistic body of work and founded a leading individual company.

A former pupil of the decorator René Gabriel, who strongly influenced the entire young generation of designers in the 1950s, Capron began by developing the shapes that would become the hallmarks of his work: branches, stylised figures, suns and geometric motifs. His sources of inspiration were varied, ranging from icons from popular arts and traditions when he first arrived in Vallauris, to primitive arts and archaic Greece, of which he was, like Picasso, a fervent follower. In fact, they both borrowed forms and decorations from this heritage, from which Capron drew his famous "ear vase", which combines Greek vases and Etruscan funerary urns. Today, Roger Capron's work is attracting collectors around the world.

Based on the original text by Pierre Staudenmeyer, this edition features an exclusive interview between Jacotte Capron and Flavien Gaillard, a specialist in 20th-century decorative arts, as well as a large number of illustrations.
