Roger Godchaux (1878-1958) was an animal sculptor in the 1930s who created a bestiary in the naturalist style, on the fringe of the movement known as "le retour au lisse". As a great admirer of Barye, he renewed this naturalist animal sculpture by modelling animals with every-day and peaceful attitudes.
This book retraces the life of the sculptor and the diversity of his work: his statuary, but also his graphic work and his extraordinary bestiary. Roger Godchaux is without doubt one of the most important animal sculptors of the 20th century.
