Exhibition at the Cité de la Tapisserie, Aubusson, 3 July - 19 September 2021
With its rich iconography, this exhibition catalogue retraces the career of the Sallandrouze de Lamornaix family of tapestry-makers - heirs to a merchant dynasty dating back to the 16th century which gave its name to one of the largest French companies during the First Empire - and the history of their carpet and tapestry factory.
Through the forty or so works exhibited, this book invites us to rediscover a whole part of French history - political, industrial and artistic - and the three major periods experienced by the company: its development at the beginning of the 19th century, its golden age from the 1810s to the 1860s, which was followed by financial difficulties that led to the end of production in 1878.
