This book discloses an exhibition of about one hundred Jean Baptiste Olives's oils, watercolours, drawings and a catalogue raisonné of his work.
Known for his seascapes and landscapes, he illustrated also himself for his changing colors still life paintings. He mostly drew his inspiration from Provence, painting Marseille, it's old port, islands and shores. A few months spent in Normandy brought his palette a new light less fierce, more diffused. A stay in Venice brought a romantic and exotic touch. Between private and official orders, he worked during sixty years from 1871 until 1936.
