Exhibition at the Bozar - Palais des beaux-arts, Brussels, 23 February - 4 June 2017

After his beginnings as a surrealist painter, mainly influenced by René Magritte, Pol Bury (1922-2005) exhibited with La Jeune Peinture belge and the CoBrA movement. In 1950, he discovered the work of Calder, who had an important influence on him. From 1953 onwards, Bury himself introduced movement into his work and thus became one of the protagonists of kinetic art. With his reliefs and sculptures with extremely slow movements, he occupies a very special place within this movement. As for the general public, it probably knows him mainly by his fountains and sculptures in public spaces. Pol Bury's innovative and offbeat work has won over both the Parisian and New York artistic communities, earning him international recognition.

This exhibition catalogue is an invitation to rediscover the protean work of one of the most important Belgian artists of the post-war period.
