From his early days in the Zurich Dada movement through to the 1960s, Jean Arp (1886–1966) produced an extraordinary and influential body of work. He is best known for his two- and three-dimensional works, characterised by biomorphic forms that were to become the very embodiment of organic abstraction.

This monograph focuses on Arp’s works on paper, as well as his collages, offering an overview of their role within the artist’s multifaceted output, particularly as a vehicle for play and a means of inventing new worlds. Divided into five chapters, the numerous illustrations present a rich and representative selection of works, most of which have never before been reproduced or exhibited publicly. The book analyses the formal language and artistic resonances of these works, highlighting their links with Arp’s iconic sculptural practice.
