What if art made the invisible visible?

For over thirty years, the sculptor, painter and medium Benoit Lemercier (1965–) has been exploring the invisible. His work draws its inspiration from what he calls ‘Metareality’: a field of forces, energies and structures which, in his view, underpin our reality. The artist creates only unique pieces, in steel or terracotta, which he shapes himself without ever delegating any part of the process.

Created in steel, terracotta or on canvas, the ‘Supercordes’, ‘Hypercubes’, ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Henosis’ series each reveal a facet of this hidden universe. They explore the infinitely small and the infinitely large, the fourth dimension, dark matter and the unity of the cosmos, in a quest where intuition engages with the major theories of contemporary physics.

This monograph highlights the overall coherence of a singular body of work. Richly illustrated, it traces the journey of an artist for whom art is not an end in itself, but a passage between two realities. A sensitive and profound journey to the very edges of the tangible world.
