Reissued in one volume
Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) was a brilliant, multi-faceted artist and one of the great protagonists of Italian and European art in the 17th century. Thanks to his inexhaustible inventiveness, his entrepreneurial spirit, his exceptional ability to forge strong bonds with his clients, collaborators and pupils, and his extraordinary technical skill, he profoundly renewed the art of sculpture, creating absolute masterpieces and colossal works that left an indelible mark on the city of Rome.
The new edition of this catalogue, published in 2 volumes in 2022, includes sculptures from his earliest youth, created with his father Pietro, to his most recent works, arranged in chronological order. The individual cards provide technical, documentary and bibliographical data, as well as a critical history of the work, in a close comparison between the texts and documents of the period and current artistic literature. The book is accompanied by a meticulous photographic campaign carried out at the home of the owner of each work, as well as an interpretative portfolio.
