Cremonini : le regard en miroir

A leading artist of the second half of the 20th century, Leonardo Cremonini (1925–2010) was one of the foremost figurative painters in post-war Europe.

Trained in Italy before settling in Paris in 1951, the Bologna-born artist quickly made his mark on the international art scene. Whilst abstraction dominated the art world, he chose the path of figurative art. He was supported from an early stage by figures such as Peggy Guggenheim, the painter Francis Bacon and the art critic William Rubin.

Featuring over eighty paintings, as well as drawings and watercolours, this exhibition catalogue traces Cremonini’s entire career, spanning his time in both France and Italy from 1945 to 2010. It is the most comprehensive publication on his art in nearly 40 years, featuring an essay by Dominique Fernandez, as well as in-depth studies by art historians Lydia Harambourg and Tancrède Hertzog, the exhibition’s curators.
