Exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi and Museo di San Marco, Florence, September 26, 2025–January 25, 2026
The creator of paintings renowned for their mastery of perspective, use of light, and the relationship between figures and space, Fra Angelico (c. 1395–1455) explored the language of Gothic painting before enthusiastically embracing the new principles of Renaissance art that were emerging in Florence at the time.
This exhibition catalog offers an in-depth study of the extraordinary talent of the painter-monk, highlighting his capacity for artistic innovation in the service of profound spiritual values. It also provides a comprehensive assessment of the current state of research on Fra Angelico.
The volume also includes critical essays, a study of the history of the Museum of San Marco, and an analysis of the artist's frescoes preserved in the chapter house, cloisters, and monastic cells.
