Exhibition at the Fondation Vuitton, Paris, 9 October 2026 – 8 March 2027
Gustave Fayet (1865–1925) stands out as one of the most distinctive figures on the French art scene at the turn of the 20th century. Unjustly forgotten, this art lover and great collector also proved to be a passionate creator and entrepreneur, finding his calling in the decorative arts. His multifaceted body of work defies definition: Fayet was at once a painter, ceramist, interior designer, and designer of fabrics, wallpapers and illustrated books, as well as the founder of a fashion house and a workshop where carpets were produced based on his designs.
He is particularly distinguished by his unique floral vocabulary, characterised by an unapologetic taste for the fantastical and a desire to experiment.
Long inaccessible, scattered or forgotten, Fayet’s works are brought together for the first time in this exhibition catalogue. They bear witness to a free and modern creative vitality, in which colour, pattern and invention engage in dialogue with the major artistic movements of the period, revealing a body of work that has been entirely overlooked.
This volume is complemented by the book Gustave Fayet collectionneur.
