Henri Matisset et la chapelle de Vence: récit d'une création
Auteur(s) : Soeur Jacques-Marie
There are stories that are unique and fundamental to understanding a major work. Such is the case with the book written by Sister Jacques-Marie – Monique Bourgeois – at the end of her life, which not only changed her own existence, but also, thanks above all to her, the architecture of the 20th century.
The artist's last and final project, the Chapel of the Rosary in Vence, marks the culmination of Henri Matisse's work, as he himself liked to say. Sister Jacques-Marie, a Dominican nun, was the painter's model, but above all the person who encouraged him to embark on this extraordinary adventure of designing the chapel located in the Nice hinterland. In this book, she recounts the stages of its construction, which were marked by the friendship and complicity that developed between them over the years and from which this masterpiece emerged.
This new edition, with a completely redesigned layout, features reproductions of Matisse's drawings, previously unpublished archival photographs and excerpts from the painter's correspondence.
