Histoire Des Jardins

Auteur(s) : Philippe Prévôt

The history of gardens is the history of man: it reflects his culture, his knowledge, his utopias and his fashions. Using a rich and often unpublished iconography, Philippe Prévôt traces the evolution of gardens, from the mythical gardens of Babylon to the vertical gardens of Patrick Blanc.

In addition to a clear and synthetic presentation of the great classical moments of the garden (Antiquity, Islamic gardens, China and Japan, Italian, French, and English gardens), Philippe Prévôt emphasizes the history of the garden in France and addresses aspects that are often less well known, such as, for example, the art of the rock gardeners in the 19th century, Art Deco gardens, and the history of vegetable gardens. The book ends with a presentation of the great creators of gardens.
