Exhibition at the Hôtel-Dieu – Tournus Museum, 24 May – 21 September 2025
To mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725–1805), the town of Tournus, where the painter and draughtsman was born, is partnering with the Louvre Museum to pay tribute to him.
This exhibition catalogue presents thirty works by the master selected from the rich collection of the Cabinet des Dessins, which bear witness both to Greuze's creative process and his desire to make some of his most accomplished drawings into works of art in their own right, intended for a clientele of art lovers and collectors. All of the master's favourite themes are illustrated here, including genre scenes, subjects with moralistic connotations, expressive heads and portraits.
