Signing at the Librairie Lardanchet on Wednesday 9 October 2024 from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Blending romance and historical investigation, the author tells the story of Berthe Morisot's painting Le Berceau (The Cradle).
Appearing at the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874, Le Berceau is an intimate scene that inspired Berthe Morisot to paint her sister Edma contemplating her daughter Blanche. The artist's eyes and brush transformed this moment of everyday life into a timeless maternity. Mallarmé rightly wrote of Berthe Morisot's art: 'A fairy tale, yes, everyday...'.
Based on an exchange of letters between sisters (a moving story of sisterhood), this book brings the past to life and resurrects the era of Impressionism through Emma's eyes, giving us a better understanding of the significance of Le Berceau and the personality of Berthe Morisot.
