Les Flandrin, Artistes Et Frères : Hippolyte, Paul, Auguste
Auteur(s) : Collectif
Exhibition at the musée des Beaux-Arts, Lyon, 27 March - 27 June, 2021
Hippolyte (1809-1864), Paul (1811-1902) and Auguste (1804-1842) Flandrin, originally from Lyon, were among the most important painters on the French artistic scene in the mid-19th century. Hippolyte, the most famous, is reknown for his history paintings, his large settings and his portraits. Paul excelled in landscapes and Auguste, the eldest, remains little known because of his premature death.
This exhibition catalogue presents their work in the light of recent research and discoveries - including the restoration of the decorations in the church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris - bringing together a corpus of nearly three hundred and fifty works, many of which have never been published before.
