Les Yeux dans les yeux

More than half of the works in the Pinault Collection, across all media, deal with the human figure. Through this fundamental subject, artists confront us with our fellow human beings, whose appearance—and much more—has been immortalised through painting, drawing, photography or film: through the gaze of another.

This exhibition catalogue brings together more than 90 works – paintings, sculptures and drawings – from the Pinault Collection, orchestrating a confrontation between faces. It traverses the history of art, speaks of the relationship to the image of oneself and others, and evokes the idea of disappearance and the impossibility, at times, of capturing a face, an expression, a spirit, an attitude.
