Man Ray: To Create is Divine

Nouveauté

Auteur(s) : Francis Naumann

Exhibition at the Larkin Erdmann Gallery, Zurich, 12 September – 14 November 2025

An elusive artist, a key figure in the Dada movement in New York, and a leading light of Surrealism in Paris, Man Ray (1890–1976) redefined the rules of modern art by turning photography into a realm of endless experimentation. A painter, sculptor and visual poet all in one, he spent his life blurring the boundaries between reality and dreams.

This exhibition catalogue brings together 162 works by the artist: paintings, drawings, collages, photographs, prints and objects dating from his early years right up to works created just one year before his death in 1976. It is complemented by a series of previously unpublished photographs of Man Ray’s studio on Rue Ferou. This volume offers the most comprehensive overview of Man Ray’s art and life currently available in book form.
