Book signing with the artist at Librairie Lardanchet on Wednesday 6 May 2026 from 6pm to 8.30pm
Born in Troyes into a family of collectors, Martine Martine (1932–) was introduced to art at a very early age. Her work, as personal as it is powerful in its fidelity to figurative art, draws both its creative energy and its zest for life from her family roots.
The number of self-portraits painted throughout her career express the questions Martine Martine has grappled with and the answers she has formulated by depicting, initially, her immediate surroundings – still lifes, portraits of friends – and then other themes – hands, horses, orchestras, crowds in motion, studios, mountain landscapes, sumo wrestlers, etc.
This third volume of the catalogue raisonné lists all of Martine Martine’s works since 2022; mainly works on paper, with the figure of Balzac as the central theme: 1,319 Indian ink washes (in sketchbooks or on loose sheets), 3 oil paintings on canvas and 3 bronzes. A collection of jewellery (187 plaster casts, not yet cast) created in the 1980s has been added.
