Maurizio Cattelan: Beware of Yourself
Auteur(s) : Collectif
Covering nearly 40 years of work by Italian artist and curator Maurizio Cattelan (1960-), this book is part catalogue raisonné, part sui generis monograph, part autobiography and part collection of sources. Chapters in which Cattelan addresses recurring concepts, processes and questions in his practice alternate with specific focuses on works and series of works, exhibitions or special projects, grouped and organised as possible avenues towards a deeper understanding.
Both a reconstruction of an artistic career and an invitation to question appearances, roles, and the very meaning of art and life, the book also includes nine essays by Cattelan, written between 1989 and today, presented here in their entirety with notes on their original context. The reading experience is constantly renewed by groups of works presented in chronological order, allowing the reader to trace the evolution of themes and Cattelan's journey as an artist.
