Nice : du rivage à la mer

Auteur(s) : Collectif
Exhibition at the Musée Massena, Nice, 8 May - 21 September 2025
From prehistoric times to the present day, from the Nikaïa of the Greeks to the winter retreat of Queen Victoria, the city of Nice has constantly reinvented its relationship with the shore. Sometimes, fearing the threats, it has turned away from it and protected itself. Often, it has made it the horizon of its daring and its dreams. Today, as the United Nations Conference on the Oceans is being held here, Nice is more than ever questioning its responsibility towards this fragile and threatened natural environment.
This exhibition catalogue explores the relationship that Nice has maintained with the Mediterranean throughout its history, through a selection of works of art, from a Head of a Bearded Man dating from Antiquity to paintings by Alexis Mossa and Jean Dufy.
