Exhibition at the Hôtel de Caumont, Aix-en-Provence, 6 May - 18 September 2022
In 1908, during a trip to the south of France with Georges Braque, Norman artist Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) walked in the footsteps of Cézanne, whose work he continued to explore until 1914, testing his lesson in the Norman light. The blue of the sea and sky remained at the heart of an unceasing search for the painter's favourite motifs: bathers, nautical festivals, coastal landscapes and boats.
Through more than ninety works, mostly from the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, but also from public and private collections, this exhibition catalogue allows to discover Dufy's virtuosity in a wide variety of techniques, from oil to watercolour and drawing, as well as engraving, ceramics and illustrations for works by writers of his time, including Colette, Gide and Apollinaire.
