Exhibition at the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec, Albi, 29 April - 31 August 2025
This exhibition catalogue brings together all the posters by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, restored and presented in their entirety for the first time. The artist's famous posters are displayed alongside those of his contemporaries, such as Jules Chéret and Alfons Mucha, as well as the sketches and preparatory studies that preceded them. The technique used to create the posters is studied and presented in detail, using intermediate prints to illustrate the different stages in their production.
Three essays place the artist and his work in the historical, economic and social context of the time, shedding particular light on the rise of the illustrated poster at the end of the nineteenth century and the exhibition and collection practices that followed.
