Zao Wou-Ki (1920-2013) is recognised worldwide as one of the greatest contemporary artists of Chinese origin. His oeuvre comprises more than 1,900 paintings produced between 1935 and 2008, when he decided to stop using oil paint. During his lifetime, he collected all possible information about his work, in order to keep a record of it and ensure its continuity. These archives, begun under his supervision, served as the basis for this book.
Produced under the direction of Françoise Marquet, the artist's widow, and Yann Hendgen, artistic director of the Zao Wou-Ki Foundation, this three-volume catalogue raisonné presents all of the paintings created by the Chinese artist during his career. This new publication includes the first volume, devoted to the years 1935-1958, published in 2019 and now out of print.
