Limited edition of 400 numbered copies
The official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855 has become established over time as a mark of excellence for Bordeaux wines. One need only mention the names of the first growth reds: Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion; and the first growth white: Château d'Yquem.
This book offers a journey through eighty-eight of the finest vineyards in the Bordeaux region. It is illustrated with some of the most iconic and rare menus from Jean-Maurice Sacré's collection, accompanied by a preface by Xavier Mauduit (‘Le Cours de l'histoire’ on France Culture), a text by Guillaume Picon, a contribution by Jean Tulard and ‘portraits’ of châteaux by Gabrielle Vizzavona, author and wine expert.
This book also contains six reproductions of previously unpublished black chalk drawings by the painter Philippe Cognée, as well as six offprints from the same series, providing a mineral counterpoint to the six premier cru classés and the thousand-year-old terroirs from which they originate.
All elements of the edition are produced in France by the Manufacture d'histoire Deux-Ponts, founded in 1935. The box set comes with a certificate of authenticity.
