Exhibition at the Musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, Paris, 24 September 2019 - 26 January 2020
In 1998, the Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac Museum inherited the collections of the National Museum of African and Oceanic Art and the ethnographic collections of the Museum of Man, which total nearly 300,000 objects. Since then, he has developed a policy of acquisitions that includes nearly 70,000 pieces and photographs.
This exhibition catalogue is an invitation to go behind the scenes of a collection. It is an opportunity to understand the stages, processes and multiple orientations of these acquisitions, which open onto the future: increasing this collection is indeed part of a global art history where historical aspects resonate with contemporary issues.
« La librairie Lardanchet Beaux-Arts sera fermée du samedi 1er août et rouvrira le 1er septembre dès 10h. Toute commande effectuée au cours de cette période sera traitée à notre retour. »
