African Art From The Heinz Mack Collection

Auteur(s) : David Zemanek

Since 1955, artist Heinz Mack has regularly undertaken artistic expeditions into the deserts of Africa. During his travels he has purchased works by African artists, arousing a curiosity about foreign objects that has shaped his life and work.

An array of sculptural and woven works by unknown African artists inspired Mack, and their unique use of light, architecture, and portraiture has continued to affect the style and content of his works to this day. Printed here for the first time, Mack's collection includes sculptures and objects made of wood, clay, and metal--materials which have also become characteristic of his own art.
